Robert C. Semler
Art has been not only a profession but also a way of life for Robert C. Semler. After studying portrait and figure art at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia, PA, he spent 28 years in illustration. His work for the United States Coast Guard Art program (COGAP) includes 14 paintings in their permanent collection and a mural of the USCGC EAGLE, part of the historic mural project of the Class of 1962, for the Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT. He has been awarded the COGAP George Gray Award for Excellence 4 times.
A Signature Member of the American Society of Marine Artists for 28 years, Robert served as their president for 5 years and was a member of their Board of Directors for over 20 years. Robert is Editor of the ASMA News & Journal, the Society’s quarterly magazine publication. He is also a member of the NY Society of Illustrators.
His works have appeared in several books devoted to marine art, including “Painting Ships, Shores and the Sea”, North Light Books; “A Gallery of Marine Art”, Rockport Publishers; “Bound For Blue Water”, Greenwich Workshop Press and “SS United States, the Fastest Ship in the World”, Turner Publishing.
