Tribute to Diane Carr

Diane Carr and her dog Daisy

This calendar is a tribute to the memory of the founder of the Williamsburg Arts Council, Diane Carr. A visionary in our community, Diane loved the arts and saw the need for more connection and support of Williamsburg artists. Diane was an inspirational leader who accomplished many things. She started and was President of the Williamsburg Arts Council; a group of like-minded people who shared her goals and vision. She developed the calendar as a means of promoting the art of our talented local artists and as a fundraiser to support emerging young artists. She worked tirelessly with artists to develop the calendar and networked with local schools and leaders in the community to further this vision.

Diane and her husband moved to Williamsburg in 2003. Continuing her lifelong interest in community service and the arts, she involved herself in numerous organizations. She was involved and supported the Junior League of Hampton Roads, The Muscarelle Museum of Art, The Williamsburg Symphony, and Opera in Williamsburg.

Her spirit lives on in our hearts and our community.

About The Williamsburg Arts Council

Members of the Williamsburg Arts Council are volunteers who support the visual and performing arts in the greater Williamsburg community. The council provides artistic opportunities supported by fundraising events throughout the year. Our primary project is our scholarship opportunity. Scholarships are awarded to promising local art students to be used to further their education in the arts. In 2020 the arts council awarded generous scholarships to three graduating high school seniors pursuing an education in music. Students graduating from high school who are planning to major in an arts education are eligible to apply for the WAC scholarship. The application for scholarship must be accompanied with a letter by the student explaining why they are applying; a brief biography; a letter from two teachers in the art they are pursuing: and a letter of admittance into the college university or art school to which they have applied (scholarships are paid directly to that institution). Scholarship recipients will be selected by a committee and all applicants will be notified after the selection has been made.

Scholarship applications may be requested via email at: wac23187@gmail.com
